The
Sgt Dennis James Flanagan Foundation has
given away a total of
$ 40,500.00 during its first year of operation.
Most of that was given through the
scholarship programs at Lecanto and Citrus
High Schools in Citrus County Florida.
The Sgt Dennis James Memorial Scholarship
program at Lecanto High School (LHS) has
given away 5 scholarships and one grant
. On May 15, 2006 a total of 3 scholarships
were given to LHS seniors. Samantha Cox
received a renewable scholarship of $500.00
annually for up to 4 years. Samantha Hoffman
and Sean Vidair each received a renewable
$1500.00 scholarship. Grand total of money
awarded if each does renew their scholarship
for the maximum of 4 years = $14,000.00
A grant of $500.00 was given by the foundation
in January of 2007. Name is withheld until
permission to use it is granted.
On May 3, 2007 the CWO Aaron A Weaver
Memorial Scholarship was awarded at Citrus
High School ( CHS). CHS was Aaron’s
alma mater. The foundation sponsored this
renewable $1500.00 scholarship. Total
award amount over 4 years is $ 6000.00.
On May 15, 2007 LHS held its annual Senior
Awards Night. Two more Sgt Dennis James
Flanagan Memorial Scholarships were given
away. The renewable scholarships are worth
$ 6,000.00 each for a total of $12,000.00
over 4 years.
Grand total to date for scholarships :
$32,000.00 plus the $500.00 grant.
The
foundation has also given $1000.00 to
a local veteran’s group which assists
veterans with housing or medical needs
or food or clothing. A check for $5000.00
was presented to the Veterans Coalition
of Citrus County during the inaugural
fundraising events. Another $ 1000.00
was given as grants to a veteran and widow
of a veteran March and April 2007 to help
with housing costs.
